THE TRAIL NO ONE ELSE RIDES

Sierras Chicas, on a Criollo horse

There are trails that appear on no tourist map: paths known only to the highland families who inherited them over generations, and which we can ride today thanks to the trust of those who open their gates to us.
This ride crosses six private estates in the Sierras Chicas — an exclusive route no one else runs — carrying you, on our own home-bred Criollo horses, to the foothills of the legendary Cerro Uritorco.

Four days through native woodland, river crossings, high ridgelines and valleys steeped in history. We sleep in real mountain refuges — with beds, mattresses and hot water — and close each day with an asado, a campfire and live folk guitar.

This isn’t tourism: it’s the mountains of Córdoba lived the way the gauchos who call them home live them.

Day-by-day itinerary

Scheduled departures in small groups. We ride almost all year round — we only rest in June and July.

Day 1

From native woodland to the ridgeline

We set off from the base of the Uritorco along the traditional Senda del Toro toward the Los Alazanes reservoir. Native woodland, birds and wildlife accompany the climb. We descend to the river zone and cross the Calabalumba river about twelve times, past old homesteads and ruins from another era. After a snack by the reservoir, we keep climbing to the main ridge and reach the El Quince refuge: wine, traditional food and live guitar.

Day 2

Cerro Uritorco and the high peaks

A country breakfast and then we saddle up. After 3½ to 4 hours we reach the north-west lookout of the Uritorco, at 1,980 m a.s.l., with a 360° panorama: the Punilla Valley, the Totoral region and Salinas Grandes, plus condors and black chested eagles overhead. We descend to the Pavón post, where dinner, a campfire and live guitar await by the Agua de los Rocíos stream.

Day 3

Ongamira Valley

A short climb and we begin the descent along the mountain ridges. We cross the Piedras Afiladas, with views over the Quebrada de Luna, Los Terrones and the historic Ongamira Caves.
We reach the foot of Colchiquí hill, a site of great significance to the region’s indigenous peoples, where we share its history. Final night at the Colchiquí Charalqueta post.

Day 4

Farewell

The last day marks the close of the ride. After breakfast we prepare the horses for one final short ride within the estate, enjoying the landscapes and the moments shared along the way. With this we wrap up several days of adventure, nature and highland culture, and each rider sets off back home.
